John Wesley Preservation Society and Museum
Through the efforts of the John Wesley Preservation Society and its supporters, the church has been rehabilitated, cook shop rebuilt, property landscaped, oral histories recorded, documentary photos obtained and the cemetery once again functions as a burial ground for the community.
We are becoming ADA Compliant: The John Wesley Preservation Society and Museum will be constructing a ramp to make the Nellie Leatherberry Cookshop accessible to everyone, with stable, designated handicapped parking spaces as close as possible to the Church and Museum, along with a handicapped-accessible rest room.
We are providing more convenient parking for visitors. As parking is prohibited along Oxford Road, we are developing an on-site parking area thanks to the generously donated acre of land abutting he cemetery.
We have increased our outreach efforts by interviewing local residents and recording their histories, while exploring ways to share that information with the public. We also are researching the lives of those buried at John Wesley Cemetery.
We are compiling a new cookbook to add historical flavor to the John Wesley experience, and look forward to sharing it with the public.
We’re also developing new projects with The Oxford Museum and will be co-sponsoring events with the Oxford Community Center. More on these exciting projects shortly!
